Travellers in China are expected to make 15 million trips by air over the Lunar New Year in January.
The holiday, this year running from 14 January to 22 February, is expected to see 1.8 billion trips by road, 144 million trips by train and 15 million trips by air, The Associated Press reported.
The estimates have been made by the Chinese cabinet's National Development and Reform Commission and represent a 3.1% increase from the 2005 holiday season.
It is traditional for the Chinese to visit their home towns during the holiday.
